DRAGON BOAT TEAM BREATHES PASSION

(1) The Eurasian Association took part in the Singapore River Regatta for the very first time and made a big splash. (2) For a team of mostly first-timers who have never taken up an oar before, the finishing time of 2 minutes 13 seconds was considered respectable against the Singapore Social Development Service (SDS) team who won the race in 1 minute 59 seconds.

(3) Organised by the Singapore Dragon Boat Association, a total of six teams took part in the People’s Association (PA) Dragon Boat Championship Corporate category held at the Singapore River on 12 November 2006. (4) The EA’s 12-crew team met up and practised hard once a week for six weeks at the Kallang River to prepare for the race.

(5) Except for Angeline Pereira who is an experienced rower, most were unfamiliar with any kind of rowing, let alone in a dragon boat, until they came together to form the EA team. (6) “Our nerves got the better of us perhaps due to the lack of experience. By comparison, the coordination for the SDS and the Singapore Scouts Association teams was fantastic.

(7) Nonetheless, this race sparked our passion for dragon boat racing and we had lots of fun. (8) Our members are now raving to form an official EA dragon boat team and to do better for future races,” said Angeline of EA’s debut attempt.

(9) The Eurasian Association is proud of the dragon boat team and thanks everyone who participated in the race for their time and effort.
